Jasmine Afshar

Development Coordinator

Jasmine is the daughter of refugees from Afghanistan. She is motivated to work at Tiyya by families, like her own, that have been uprooted from their homes and forced to start over. Jasmine holds a Master's Degree in Peace and Justice Studies and was volunteering in the refugee camps in Lesvos, Greece prior to joining Tiyya. As the Development Coordinator at Tiyya, Jasmine enjoys the opportunity to provide long-term support for families resettling in Orange County on their path towards self-sufficiency.

Quote she lives by: Ein ham migzarad or "This too shall pass" by the Persian poet, Rumi. Jasmine has heard this quote from working with refugees in Turkey, Greece, and the U.S. and it serves as a reminder of their inspiring resilience in the face of hardship.

Where she hopes to be in the next few years: In the next few years, Jasmine hopes to be actively engaged in Tiyya's social enterprise opportunities for refugee and low-income families in Orange County and other highly impacted counties.
