On Saturday, May 5th, 2018, five volunteers from PIMCO led a Career Building Workshop at our Office to support Tiyya's job-seeking clients.

The workshop began with a networking activity. It was proceeded by a presentation, facilitated by Wu-Kwan Kit,  with general interview and resume tips as well as guidelines for professionalism in the workplace.

Tiyya's client's from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Iraq, and Syria asked great questions to unpack the cultural differences of applying for jobs in the U.S.

Abdul Satar, a Civil Engineer from Afghanistan, asked how long he should wait after an interview to send a follow-up email.

Job Coach, Paresh, advised Abdul Satar asking the interviewee for a timeline of next steps after the interview to inform how long to wait to send a follow-up email.

Coaches Raghu and Jessica lead a fun and interactive "what to do" vs. "what not to do" during a job interview skit. (Click here to see the skit on our Facebook page)

Jessica, the interviewee, exaggerated the what NOT to do during an interview in her posture, answering her phone during the interview, and lack of interest. In the second act, interviewer Raghu was impressed by Jessica's eye contact, poise, and her ability to clearly and confidently answer questions.

Following the role play, coaches worked one-on-one to provide resume feedback for each of the 13 clients in attendance.

Thank you to our friends at PIMCO for leading this empowering workshop to give Tiyya's Adult LEAD clients the support they need to land the job!
